Naomi Barbero

My name is Naomi Barbero and I have been living in the riding of Scarborough-Agincourt for over 10 years.

I found out that Commission is planning on dissolving the riding of Scarborough-Agincourt and amalgamating it with surrounding ridings to create a new riding called Scarborough Northwest.

I want to say that I completely disagree with this decision. Scarborough-Agincourt is a vastly growing and highly diverse community. Over 80% of residents are visible minorities, many of whom are 1st or 2nd generation immigrants. This makes us one of the highest immigrant ridings in any federal riding.

By dissolving the riding, and amalgamating us with parts of North York and North Scarborough, we lose our representation. Not only does this affect the community federally but also within the provincial and municipal level. Why make this change to a highly diverse community that needs more voices of support and not less?

The dynamics and needs within Scarborough-Agincourt are very different from the surrounding ridings. I strongly oppose the redistribution of the boundaries affecting Scarborough-Agincourt. I hope you reconsider the decision and realize the importance representation plays in a community of minorities and immigrants, who need more representation and not less!

Regards,

Naomi Barbero
