I’m proposing a boundary change to two Ridings in Toronto. University Rosedale (117,119 residents) and St. Clair Mount Pleasant (117,119 residents). The two ridings are about equal in population but they are comprised of very different communities. The western part of the proposed St. Clair Mount Pleasant has much more in common with the communities of University Rosedale to the south. The same can be said of the eastern parts of both ridings as Rosedale and Mount Pleasant are similar communities.

My proposal calls for the redistribution to have University Rosedale changed to be called Trinity which was the name of parts of the riding before it was eliminated for the 1988 federal election. The riding would keep its western boundaries. The eastern boundary would be the same in the south up to Bloor St. south side then continue north on Avenue Rd.

The norther boundary would be Eglinton Ave.

The newly named riding to the east could be called Rosedale Mount Pleasant. It would gain the northern part of your proposed University Rosedale riding with its western boundary being Avenue Rd from Bloor St. north to Eglinton Ave. The rest of the eastern part of University Rosedale would join this proposed riding.

I don’t have specific population numbers, but the boundary could be adjusted between the two ridings to ensure ridings are approximately equal. For example, the northern part of the riding north of Bloor St. could move west to Spadina Ave. or east to Yonge St.

My proposal will ensure that similar communities would be in the same riding and streamlining the boundaries would be far less confusing and more equitable.
