I currently live in the York South Weston boundary in the GTA , Ontario. The part of the ward I live in is close to an area known as Junction High Park.

Our neighbourhood has a very industrialized history, of former dumps, slaughter houses, meat packers, stockyards shipping and gravel pit extraction. It’s a very a blue-collar working-class neighborhood with pockets of Toronto housing high rises and small bungalows for the 1920’s.

The new boundaries would push our neighbourhood in to a newly formed ward called Humber that crosses the Humber River and matches us with parts of a very different demographic, housing stock, environmental and infrastructure designs in wealthier neighborhoods of Etobicoke, the suburbs.

There is little to compare and I fear the issues of our already neglected, overlooked neighbourhood improvement area (zone 111) will again be dismissed and forgotten. Our needs and our residents will not take priority over be recognized by our more affluent neighbours to the west.

I strongly feel the area framed by Eglington Ave, to the north, east to WestonRd, and west to Jane St then south to St. Clair Aveshould be paired with the ward that includes the Junction area south of St.Clair down to Dundas St.

The Junction is an urban and formally heavily industrialized area that has a common history with Rockcliffe Smythe, shared needs and common future gosls and vested interest about development, bike lanes, park equity etc . We share a common healthcare Center, st Joseph’s Hospital and are closer to the family health teams to the south of St Clair than services north of Eglington.

Dundas St W from Keele to Jane is our neighbourhood’s default Main Street as St. Clair is not safe for pedestrians as it caters to cars and a Walmart plaza.

Please recognize these common interests and natural pairing and allow the neighbourhood of Rockcliffe Smythe join the High Park ward.

Sincerely

Tanya Connors
