As a resident of the City of Burlington where all my local decisions are made and my community identity resides, I strongly object to my corner of Burlington being subsumed within the proposed Oakville Lakeshore riding. I have no doubt any future MP or MPP will consider themselves to be a representative for the Town of Oakville with little to no concern for Burlington issues – my representation both federally and provincially will be seriously undermined and compromised.
It might be somewhat more palatable if the ratio of Oakville to Burlington population or geography were closer to 50 /50 within a new riding, but with the current proposal our southeast corner of Burlington does not stand a chance of being properly represented.
Please reconsider the current proposal to embed my corner of Burlington into such a large swath of Oakville's jurisdiction.
