Following the recent release of the proposed electoral boundaries for Eastern Ontario, I am writing you this letter to request that the boundary of my riding of Peterborough—Kawartha remain the same, as it has for the last 7 years.

We live in Havelock and all our outside dealings are with Peterborough. We shop there weekly, we are a member of the Peterborough Riding Association and we follow the Peterborough news/events. We have no association with Marmora, Madoc, Tweed, Apsley, Bancroft, Belleville, Tyendinaga, or any of the other communities in the new boundaries that you are proposing. We do not shop in those communities nor do we follow their events.

The proposed boundaries will create artificial separations in small communities including Havelock, Jack Lake, Apsley, and Buckhorn. We believe that individuals of these communities feel connected to Peterborough County, both socially and through the provision of services which are used by residents of the municipalities.

A reformation to include these small towns to be part of the Hastings-Lennox and Addington-Tyendinaga would cause confusion to the individuals who live there, as well as under serve these communities with the vast geography that the elected officials are expected to represent.

In conclusion, for the good of our local communities, we urge you to keep the boundaries for the federal electoral district of Peterborough-Kawartha the same as they are now.

Sincerely,

Mike and Rita Merritt
