Paul Woolner

My name is Paul Woolner. I live in Thornbury, in what is now part of the municipality of "The Town of The Blue Mountains".

I read the article yesterday about changing the boundaries and the name of the riding from Simcoe-Grey to Collingwood-Blue Mountains. I find the name change needless exercise. The boundaries of our riding are still within Simcoe and Grey counties.

The current name is inclusive of everyone within the riding , be they in Collingwood, Flesherton, Thornbury or Essa.

The use of the name Collingwood-Blue Mountains speaks to those voters in these areas only. It could be mistaken for a cheap shot at free advertising for these towns. Therefore, I believe a name change for the riding is not warranted.

If someone in the right position feels there needs to be a name change for the sake of change, I have a suggestion in keeping with the makeup of the riding.

With respect, I would like to nominate the name, South or Southern Georgian Bay. This includes all the voters of the riding as Simcoe-Grey does. The two largest rivers systems, the Nottawasaga River and the Beaver River serve to drain the riding area. Whether you are in Alliston, Wasaga Beach or the Beaver Valley . That is why I think, Southern Georgian Bay works well for the riding.

Huronia as a name was another thought. The traditional homeland of the Huron first nation was this area. In this choice you would also pay respect to our first nations.

Lastly, with tongue in cheek, Grey-Simcoe. Lets us in Grey be first for a change.

Respectfully Yours,

Paul Woolner
