It has recently been brought to our attention the possibility of and boundary and name change for Simcoe North

We have been residents of Simcoe North for the past 70+ years and these are our feelings:

To incorporate the rest of Oro Medonte into the Barrie Springwater riding is not a well thought out plan for the following reasons.

First, the potential growth in the Barrie Springwater riding over the next few years appears to be extensive and where the province of Ontario deems to have the most growth. Therefore, to have a representative only for the remaining areas of Simcoe North which potentially will stay basically the same makes no sense. Because of the population in Simcoe North at the present and for any future possible growth, we now feel that we have a "voice" to represent us and being included in the Barrie Springwater riding with its' potential growth, we would be much more unlikely to have any input of any significance.

We do 90% of our business, shopping and extra curricular activities in Orillia and so therefore would have no viable input into the politics and workings of the Barrie Springwater area.

To initiate a name change at this point in the "economical challenge" of our province and country is not only unnecessary but very irresponsible. The thousands and thousands of dollars required to implement a name change, is neither necessary or prudent at this time when there are so many situations (e.g. healthcare, education, and affordable housing) would be much better recipients of those dollars.

In closing, let me say, that if this decision is in any way based on the fact that Simcoe North is typically conservative and the greater area of Barrie Springwater would be better served in influencing the riding to become conservative because of the added population of Oro Medonte, this is indeed a very short sighted and partisan reason and is in no way working together to make this country a place where everyone should have a equal chance for success no matter what their political stripe.

Sincerely,

Dwight & Audrey Evans (Simcoe North – Oro-Medonte)
