Dear Ms. Puddy:

Re: Redistribution of Federal Electoral Districts

At its September 7, 2022, Regular Meeting, Council for the Town of Midland opposed the proposal to rename the Federal Electoral District of North Simcoe to Penetanguishene-Couchiching and passed the following motion:

That further to correspondence from MP Adam Chambers dated August 30, 2022, respecting boundary changes and name change proposal for Simcoe North, Council of the Town of Midland does not support the name change proposal to rename Simcoe North to Penetanguishene – Couchiching; and

That the riding continue to be known as Simcoe North.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the undersigned at sedgar@midland.ca.

Yours very truly,

the corporation of the town of midland

Dear Mayor Strathearn and Council:

The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission has proposed significant changes to the electoral map across Canada, including Ontario.

Please visit: Redistribution of Federal Electoral Districts (www.redecoupage-redistribution-2022.ca)

There are two significant changes proposed for the riding of Simcoe North:

  • Boundary changes: Moving all parts of Oro-Medonte currently in Simcoe North to Barrie Springwater Oro-Medonte (the area commonly known as northeast of Line 9) – for example areas affected include: Hawkestone, Warminster and Bass Lake and others
  • Name change proposal: to rename Simcoe North to Penetanguishene – Couchiching

Interested parties (Town/City councils, First Nations and Indigenous communities, Chambers of Commerce, communities affected, including residents) are able to comment in person or by letter/email on the proposed changes for Simcoe North.

How to provide feedback:

  1. Emailed/written comments must be received by September 25th and can be sent to:

Please consider whether your town or city would like to make a formal submission or how you might best inform your affected residents.

Sincerely,

Adam Chambers, MP
