I have two concerns regarding the proposed redistribution of Parkdale-High Park.
My first concern is regarding size. An increase in size will make it more difficult for an MP to service their riding. I suggest that the aim should be to limit riding sizes.
Secondly, and more significantly, is the proposed name change. I wholeheartedly agree with including indigenous heritage and giving it the place it is owed and deserved. I do not agree with eliminating the reference to Parkdale. Parkdale is an important part of the riding which deserves recognition. It is the area which represents the most vulnerable. Excluding the name "Parkdale" reflects excluding an important, and often over looked, segment of our riding. Can we not include three names? There is precedent elsewhere to do so - Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo and Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa are just a few examples.
I hope the Commission reconsiders the name.
