I understand that the Ontario Commission is holding a public consultations in Toronto to discuss the redistribution of the federal riding boundaries. I would like to submit a comment to the Commission voicing my strong opposition to the proposal to alter the electoral boundaries of the Don Valley West riding.

The proposed changes would move South Leaside out of the Don Valley West riding and into the St Clair - Mount Pleasant riding, splitting the close-knit Leaside community in two. Leasiders have long been active in the politics of the Don Valley West riding, and this arbitrary change in boundary would significantly impact the feeling of community in the area and put an end to community groups which were previously created to serve the Don Valley West riding. My home is in South Leaside, and I have always strongly identified as a member of Don Valley West; these changes would certainly alter my feeling of community in this area. Leaside High School would also no longer be a part of the Don Valley West riding if this proposal is passed. It is unthinkable that Leaside High School should be divided from the rest of Leaside as a result of an arbitrary boundary change.

I strongly oppose the proposal to alter the electoral boundaries of Don Valley West.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Michaels-Walker
