I feel that the area north of the 401 should be returned to Kingston and the Islands federal riding boundary when boundaries are reassigned. They should not be included in the proposed riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott.
The people who live in this area are orientated to Kingston for their needs - shopping, health care and various social amenities. They are not orientated to the riding they have been relegated to for the last few years nor to Gananoque.
In fact, they share police and fire services with Kingston, not these other areas.
They also pay property taxes to the City of Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott).
Since their areas of social, cultural, and economic activity all center around Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott), they should be associated with Kingston. It's a matter of relevancy and practicality.
Furthermore, Kingston is their closest constituency office when they need help.
Redistribution needs to look at the big picture in order to make the best decision for serving these residents.
