Thank you for taking the time to read this email.

As citizens and business owners in Kington, Ontario who live north of Highway 401, but still within the City of Kingston boundaries and limits, we believe it is imperative that our federal and provincial representation aligns with fellow constituents within the current Kingston & Thousand Islands riding.

We are adamantly opposed to the proposed redrawing of our electoral district to be included in the riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott.

There are numerous reasons for this, and are not limited to the following:

  1. The single biggest issue for us, is the fact that we are business owners, and our current business is located within the Kingston & 1000 Island riding, yet we as citizens are not. It is imperative that our business' political, economic and social interests align with our own when it comes to federal representation. This was never more apparent than recently with business struggles due to lockdowns.
  2. We currently pay taxes to the City of Kingston, with which our municipal services are aligned including police, fire services, and snow removal, not with Gananoque, Brockville or Prescott.
  3. The distance for us currently to visit our riding representative is over 90km, and should be closer for those that need accessibility to our elected Member's office.
  4. The vast majority of our economic spending is centered around Kingston, and not outlying juridictions.

We urge you to take into consideration all those who are in the same position as us.

We thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Regards,

Andrew Scahill
