It has come to my attention that the commission has now published the names and maps of the prosed new federal electoral districts in Ontario. One of the districts affected is that of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell which the commission is proposing be named Prescott Russell. Under this plan, Glengarry county along with the corresponding name would be removed and placed in another riding. At the same time, a much larger portion of the former historic Township of Cumberland (both in size and population) would be annexed to the new riding of Prescott-Russell. While it is not my wish to comment on the geographical boundaries per se, I would like to suggest that the new riding be named Cumberland-Prescott-Russell which would more correctly reflect both the boundaries and the history of our area. While this is arguably a small change for the commission, it is significant for the people of the area where we live. I am informed that our MP Mr. Francis Drouin supports this proposed name change.

Thanking you in advance for considering my submission,

I remain Yours truly,

Hon. Don Boudria, P.C.
