I would like to take this opportunity to submit in writing to the Public Hearing on the redistribution of Electoral Boundaries. My concern is that the area to the north of Hwy 401, which is part of the Municipality of Kingston, should be part of Kingston and the Islands and not be included in a proposed rising of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott.
There are a number of reasons why this is the practical option that should be chosen. First of all the area shares emergency services with Kingston and its inhabitants pay property taxes to the City of Kingston. The area is also local to Kingston in its geographic proximity and shares social, cultural and economic interests with the inhabitants of Kingston.
I look forward to a redistribution of electoral boundaries in this case which is carefully thought through and reflects the needs and interests of the people in the area.
