We wish to express our opposition towards the proposed redistribution of the Federal Electoral Boundaries such that our area, directly north of Highway 401 in the City of Kingston (Aylesworth), is included in the riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott. We feel strongly that instead we should be in the riding of Kingston and the Islands, for the following reasons:

  1. We are within the boundaries of the City of Kingston. Our services (police, fire, water) are provided by the City of Kingston, to which we pay property taxes.
  2. Our commercial, cultural and social activities are centred in Kingston, rather than Gananoque, Brockville or Prescott.
  3. Our primary concerns are more related to Kingston, rather than Gananoque, Brockville and Prescott and the rural areas around these towns.
  4. The distance to the constituency office would be 90 km in Brockville, whereas it would be would be 10 km in Kingston. Similarly, advance polls for the riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott would require considerable travel for us.

Our "community" is Kingston in all respects. We know local history and people of interest, and we take an interest in local government and issues. If we visit Brockville or Prescott, it is as tourists.

We ask that you reconsider the decision to include Aylesworth (K7L 4A4) in the riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott, and instead that you include this area in the riding of Kingston and the Islands.
