A few years ago, when the area of the City of Kingston, Ontario that is north of Highway 401 was shifted to a different riding from the rest of the city and our constituency office was changed from one 10 minutes away to one that was 90 minutes away, it was ridiculous.

Now it being proposed that this area be shifted into a different riding that is based in Brockville, Ontario to the east of Kingston. Being included in the new proposed riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott is even more ridiculous. Why should that riding wrap around Kingston and those of us with Kingston addresses not be included in the riding with the rest of the City of Kingston?

We share fire and police services with Kingston.

All of our social, cultural, and economic activity is centered around Kingston, not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott.

We pay property taxes to the City of Kingston, not to those other cities.

Our constituency office would be over an hour away versus the constituency office in Kingston being ten minutes away, making it impossible to reach for many.

Most of the population in this area works in Kingston and our addresses are inside the City of Kingston.

It makes absolutely no sense to lump us in with a different riding than the one based in the city we are a part of.

Sincerely,
Kevin Fox
