I'm writing in relation to the hearing regarding boundary changes for federal ridings, specifically for those of us located north of Kingston. I believe it is a mistake to group us with Gananoque, Brockville and Prescott.
The reasons are multiple.
First, we share essential services with the city of Kingston, such as police and fire.
Second, most of the citizenry participate in social activities centred in the city of Kingston, not Gananoque, Brockville or Prescott.
Third, our property taxes go to the city of Kingston.
Fourth, the proximity to our MPs office is much nearer if it were in Kingston than one of the other centres.
The previous rezoning with Lanark and Frontenac counties made little sense and this makes little more. As a region with a population too small for two ridings but too large for one, I understand the difficulties with where to draw the line between districts that works for all citizens. However, I feel it is in the best interests of my family and neighbours if those within the Kingston city limits are also within the same riding.
