We have been a frustrated rural resident of the city of Kingston for decades, as we live north of the 401, and our votes have never, ever aligned with our riding. Our interests, economic and social activities (shopping, bank, friends, family) centre around Kingston, however our votes have been lumped in with rural communities over 100 km away.

We were excited to hear that the Federal Electoral Boundaries were changing, until we saw the proposed new riding would be no better, and the new constituency office would still be in another city, focusing on serving Brockville and Prescott.

I strongly urge you to reconsider, and include Joyceville as part of the Kingston and Islands, for the following reasons:

  1. We are part of the city of Kingston, and share police and fire services with Kingston.
  2. Our social, cultural, and economic activity all centre around Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott).
  3. We pay property taxes to the City of Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott).
  4. The distance to the constituency office would be about 20 km in Kingston versus 70 km in Brockville.

Thank you,
Nora Peterson and Derrick Foote
