Please hear our voices.
It has been brought to my attention that you were reviewing and have proposed new boundaries and electoral district changes. I strongly wish to share my feedback that my interests do not align with the new proposed riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott. I chose to live in Kingston for a reason, and should have reasonable expectations that my representation would be in Kingston.
Since the last redistribution, we have had no representation. Candidates in the last election didn't even come to my area in Kingston north (Glenburnie) to campaign. That redistribution made no sense, and the proposed makes less sense as my interests align more with Kingston and the Islands:
- I am an employee of the City of Kingston
- I live 14 km from my office in downtown Kingston, meaning I can ride my bicycle to work, it seems crazy that I can't vote in the area that I have invested all levels of my life in.
- My City of Kingston Councillor lives on my street and won't be able to vote in his constituency
- My mailing address is Kingston, Ontario
- I own property in the City of Kingston
- My municipal electoral boundary/representation is the City of Kingston, Ontario
- I pay property taxes to the Corporation of the City of Kingston
- My social, cultural, and economic activity all centers around Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott)
- The average distance to the constituency office would be 10 km in Kingston versus 90 km in Brockville. This makes representation less accessible on many levels.
- Ths distance dramatically increases my path of travel, as well as fuel costs, and GHG emissions
- This is not a reasonable proposal for me to be able to be able to cast my vote
Please consider this as my written submission on the proposed boundaries and electoral district changes. I am very passionate about this not happening and that Kingston (Glenburnie) be re-aligned with Kingston and the Islands, so please confirm receipt of my submission, and next steps in the process.
