I'm a voting citizen of Canada writing in support of the riding redraw that would split Wellington-Halton Hills (a riding jerrymandered by the Conservatives years ago), and join Georgetown with Milton East.

I understand that representatives of Halton Hills have made submissions against this redraw, suggesting it will corrupt our 'sleepy little town' with all kinds of crime and violence. Not only is this an insult to our neighbours in Milton, but it does not make sense: redrawing the riding does not mean that people and lifestyles from Milton will migrate to Georgetown. In any case, we are already no longer a sleepy little town, and urbanization in this part of the province is not something that can be halted.

Meanwhile, joining Georgetown with Milton East may result in a more diverse and balanced constituency, which is a good thing: it may finally give a voice to the non-Conservative voters in this town, whose votes have been totally ineffectual for decades because this is such a heavily Conservative riding. We have a fine MP, Michael Chong, but it would be refreshing, not to mention more just, if there were some competition and some other candidate had a ghost of a chance.

Please do go ahead with the redraw of Wellington-Halton Hills, and join Georgetown with Milton East in one riding.

With respectful thanks,

Deborah Sawczak
