Attached is a letter describing our specific concerns regarding the August 19, 2022, Federal Electoral Boundary Redistribution Proposal of Burlington Lakeshore.

Dear Ms. Puddy:

We understand that after every 10-year census, our Constitution requires that federal electoral ridings be reviewed, to take into account any population changes.

We have reviewed the proposal published on August 19th, 2022, by the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario.

We are writing regarding our specific concerns about the subsuming of Elizabeth Gardens (Burlington, Ontario) into an Oakville, Ontario riding. The Elizabeth Gardens neighbourhoods are located in and connected in every way to the Burlington Community NOT the Oakville Community.

In 1967, we chose Burlington as the community to make our home and raise our family. Burlington is the community where our family and friends live. Most of our activities and volunteers work occurs in Burlington. Our hospital, Joseph Brant, is in Burlington, as are the other health care services we require. We shop in Burlington and dine in Burlington. We have no affiliations or connections with Oakville. We do not feel a sense of community with Oakville.

We believe it is crucial for our Federally elected representative to live in Burlington, be familiar with our community, be personally involved in our community, recognize the benefits of living in Burlington, and be aware of issues that arise in our community.

In summary, we understand that the Commission heavily relies on community input. We believe it is imperative that the Elizabeth Gardens Community remains within the Burlington Electoral Boundaries to be fully represented by our elected representative. We implore the Commission to reconsider their proposal to subsume Elizabeth Gardens, our current riding, into an Oakville riding.

Respectfully,

Bev Hilton
