We are current residents of the electoral district of Mississauga—Erin Mills. Thank you for consulting the public on the proposed changes to federal boundaries. Please note we are not in favour of the proposed changes to the electoral district of Mississauga—Erin Mills. We believe that it would not be in the best interests of residents and businesses if the current boundaries are changed.

Effects of the proposed changes to the Mississauga—Erin Mills electoral district

Please find below a brief summary of our reasons:

  1. Erin Mills is a unique, diverse, vibrant and interesting community with people from all over the world who have chosen to start families, set up businesses, buy houses and reside in Erin Mills.
  2. Many of the families in this area are young families with children attending different programs at different schools within the Erin Mills area. If federal boundaries are changed, it is quite likely that the City of Mississauga will also have to redraw wards, which will result in a change to school boundaries too. This will have the effect of separating friends and have an adverse effect on children and their well-being. Children have already been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. It is not in the best interests of children to bear further hardships.
  3. Erin Mills is a close knit community with family members and friends choosing to reside close to each other. Business owners/operators and employees often work and live within the Erin Mills area.

Making the proposed boundary changes would divide families and have an adverse effect on businesses and on the community. We firmly believe that changes to the federal boundaries of the Mississauga-Erin Mills electoral district should not be based primarily or solely on population growth. In our opinion, the main considerations should be the best interests of residents and local businesses, and the impact on families and on the community.

Finally, we respectfully request that the federal boundaries of Mississauga-Erin Mills remain the same and not be changed.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.
