I made two proposed changes to the proposed riding of Vaughan-Thornhill. Firstly, I would suggest the name to be restored to Thornhill, which reflects the fact that parts of the riding lay outside the boundaries of the city of Vaughan. This name is more simple and better at capturing the attitude of the residents; Thornhillers refer to their area primarily as Thornhill. To increase clarity, the name of Markham-Thornhill can be changed to Markham South (justification under my Markham-Thornhill suggestion). Changes to boundaries reflect the fact that the areas southwest of the Don River/Pomona Valley ravine are more connected to Thornhill than the areas to its northeast. The boundary in the north was changed from Peter Rupert to Dufferin ensuring the boundary falls along a major road. When considering my own or other changes, I urge the commission to consider Thornhill's role as the riding with the largest Jewish population in Canada.

Comments:

I decided to propose a change to the name from Markham-Thornhill to Markham South/Sud since a large portion of the riding does not live in Thornhill, and the riding name may cause unnecessary confusion with Vaughan-Thornhill (which, in my suggestion for that riding, I proposed be named only Thornhill). This riding name is also more simple. Changes to the boundaries are consistent with my suggestions on the proposed riding of Vaughan-Thornhill and reflect the fact that the areas southwest of the Don River/Pomona Valley ravine would be better suited as part of the proposed Vaughan-Thornhill.
