Having been a member of the Harvest Hills Community since moving to this area over 8 years ago, I would like to express my concern and disagreement with the proposed new federal electoral map changes. These changes will align us with a community in which we have nothing in common. Our daily activities closely align with Newmarket and although we are designated as jurisdictionally East Gwillimbury for municipal voting purposes, we are bound by proximity to retailers, community/ religious centres, health care facilities, and social activities to all that is available within Newmarket. Political candidates, regardless of party positions, speak to the concerns, goals, and future changes that will impact us directly.

Aligning us to a community that is concerned with rural issues rather than issues that affect suburban families, which is, by the way, the major demographic in the Harvest Hills area, does not seem to speak to the basic interests of this population.

Aligning our development (Harvest Hills) to a community that we neither frequent nor have anything in common puts us in the dubious position of total disinterest in the future political arena. I would have thought that bolstering the electoral voting turnout was a goal for all political parties, not the opposite.

Please re–consider these proposed changes. I have always, as have my neighbours, taken civic voting rights seriously, but, what is the point if you are going to have to choose from candidates who have nothing in common with your community, or your lifestyle.

Sincerely,

J. Johns
