I have lived in the Bayview/John area of Thornhill for over 30 years. The needs, community concerns and identification with those living in this part of Thornhill, those of us living east of Yonge St., west of the 404 and south Hwy. 7 are far more in tune with Vaughan/Thornhill than Markham Thornhill which is our present designation. During elections this small pocket is rarely visited by candidates because those running concentrate on the far bigger area that runs east of the 404 where candidates focus on those constituents and the concerns of that community. The 404 is simply a more natural boundary for Thornhill east (of Yonge). For what it is worth, anyone living in the pocket I am referring to will say they live in Thornhill. Anyone living on the other side of the 404 will say they live in Markham, not Thornhill! I would rename the constituency Markham South not Markham Thornhill.
