Kamal Dhillon
My name is Kamal Dhillon. I am a resident of Markham-Thornhill riding. I would like to express my concerns regarding the proposed changes to eastern part of my riding. The newly proposed boundaries of Markham-Thornhill excludes the Cedarwood neighbourhood.
Due to the proposed redistribution of our riding, Cedarwood would become a part of the Markham-Stouffville riding. Cedarwood residents have little in common with those in the neighbouring
Boxgrove community because it is separated by a large golf course, the Rouge River and train tracks. We feel more attached to our friends and neighbours on the west side of Markham Road. We attend the same religious institutions, shop at the same stores and frequent the same parks and Community Centre. We feel it would be difficult to be included in the new community.
We are very well represented by the constituency of Markham-Thornhill. The community feels that we have better access to our elected representatives. We often see our elected representatives at local events, which allows the community to directly voice any concerns to them and they are able to meet us where we are without the need to travel afar.
I request you to take my concerns and those of my community into consideration when you make your decision.
