For nearly 100 years the Kenora District has had it's own federal riding in some form or another (sometimes including Rainy River district).

The Ontario Commission for the Redistribution of Electoral Districts' proposal to change this, will mute the voices of our small communities at the federal level.

By lumping the southern half of the current Kenora federal riding into the southern half of Thunder Bay to form "Kenora-Rainy River-Thunder Bay, our smaller communities in Northwestern Ontario will no longer be organized into one riding. This change will be detrimental to all in our riding. We will have no option with this change to amplify our voices.

We oppose this change, it will be allowing the voices of our communities, all with distinctly different needs from the city of Thunder Bay, to be subsumed by the dominant voice of Thunder Bay.

Our current MP Eric Melillo, along with Sioux Lookout and Kenora councils have all expressed their opposition to these proposed boundary changes.

We are voicing the concerns, both of us, to this needless change.

Sincerely,

Else-Carine Risberg
