I'm writing to you to share feedback about the Initial Proposal created for the 2022/2023 Redistribution of Electoral Districts in Ontario. I am a resident of Kanata North, and I am greatly concerned that rural communities such as Constance Bay, Dunrobin and others that have been part of our riding, may no longer be represented by a Member of Parliament based in the City of Ottawa.

West Carleton township, which comprises communities such as Dunrobin, Carp, Constance Bay and Kinburn, are rural in nature. However, my neighbours on those communities would be poorly represented by a Member of Parliament primarily based outside of Ottawa. It is an incredibly strong impediment to effective representation if Ottawa residents are required to travel to Pembroke (150 Kilometers away), for constituency services.

Additionally, the current riding of Kanata-Carleton comprises, uniquely, the communities of Kanata and West Carleton, which have decades of shared heritage in former federal ridings. In fact, the territories of Kanata and West Carleton have been in the same federal riding since Canadian Confederation in 1867.

I would like to re-stress my concern regarding the removal of parts of West Carleton, from an Ottawa and Kanata based riding.

Thank you for your consideration,

Arthur Abreu
