Redistributing Kanata-Carleton -The Unintended Consequences

Demographic/racial impacts of Kanata-Carleton redistribution as it impacts rural sections of riding (esp. Dunrobin, Kinburn, Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay)

1. Kanata-Carleton Riding:

73.9% White, 7.5% Chinese, 4.9% South Asian, 2.9% Black, 2.5% Arab, 1.9% Indigenous, 1.9% Southeast Asian, 1.0% Filipino

* Almost 25% Immigrant Visible Minority

2.  Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke:

88.4% White, 9.6% Indigenous, 2.0% Other

* Only 2% Immigrant Visible Minority (labelled “other”)

The unintended consequence of this redistribution will be to isolate and politically alienate visible minority Canadians in the rural parts of the Kanata-Carleton riding.
