Council for The Corporation of the Town of Kingsville

At its Regular Meeting held September 12, 2022, Council of The Corporation of the Town of Kingsville passed a resolution regarding the proposed redistribution of the federal electoral boundaries, a copy of which is attached.

RE: Proposed redistribution of the federal electoral boundaries affecting Kingsville, Ontario

At its Regular Meeting held September 12, 2022, Council of the Corporation of the Town of Kingsville passed the following resolution:

#349-09122022

Moved by Councillor Thomas Neufeld

Seconded by Councillor Kimberly DeYong

Whereas the Town of Kingsville is deeply concerned about the proposed changes to the federal seat distribution boundary affecting Kingsville;

And whereas the Town of Kingsville would be divided and represented by two members of Parliament;

And whereas the Town of Kingsville has a population of just over 22,000 and has a unique geographic and cultural boundary within Essex County, which means it should not be subdivided in any federal seat distribution boundary proposal;

And whereas requiring the Town of Kingsville to work through two federal Members of Parliament, including for federal infrastructure funding applications, will be extremely difficult and result in harm and unfairness to the people of the Town of Kingsville.

Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of the Town of Kingsville requests an in-person meeting with the Commission to discuss the proposed boundary changes, allowing all concerned elected officials and citizens to address the Commission;

And further be it resolved that the Town of Kingsville urges the Commission to keep the Town of Kingsville federal boundaries as they currently remain.

If you have any questions, please contact the undersigned.

Yours very truly,

(Original signed by)

Paula Parker, Town Clerk
On behalf of Council
