Katrina McQuail

My name is Katrina McQuail, I am a constituent of Huron Bruce. Thank you for leading this important process. We are all advocating for what we feel will best serve our communities and support the democratic process we all hold dear.

These written submissions are a vital part of the Commission process because the proposed boundaries were mainly informed by Census data and other board data sources. A more detailed evaluation and contextualization for the initial analysis are the next steps. Only by incorporating provincial and local developments, and lived experience, is the Commission able to form recommendations of what is truly needed by the electorate and constituency of {name of riding}.

Since the last Commission, we have had numerous elections at all levels of government, which has shown that our ridings boundaries as they currently exist have supported voter turnout and supported the democratic process by diminishing confusion by electors about where to vote.

I have been a resident of Huron Bruce since I was born. I have also worked for both Elections Canada and Elections Ontario numerous times in a variety of capacities and I am deeply concerned that the change in riding boundaries will cause excessive hardship for electoral officials, and confusion and frustration for voters.

At this juncture, the Commission is proposing changes to the boundaries of Huron Bruce.. I am urging the Commission to reconsider and keep the existing boundaries intact. I disagree that new boundaries will better serve the community for the next decade.

The boundaries for Huron Bruce as proposed make the riding even less accessible due to lengthening the north-south aspects. It will cause incredible confusion due to the lack of following previously used municipal or county boundaries in an area that already has great frustration and disenfranchisement by electors due to being sent to the wrong polling locations due to confusion on their voter cards.

Once again, I would like to thank the Redistribution Commission for your consideration. I am available if you need further clarification.

Thank you,

Katrina McQuail
