RE: proposed redrawing of the federal electoral map

The Huron County Federation of Agriculture (HCFA) works in an advocacy role on behalf of our farm family members. Along with our Commodity partners in Huron, the HCFA is committed to a profitable and sustainable future for farm families.

The HCFA board thanks you for the opportunity to comment on the proposed federal electoral maps. The proposed boundaries have drawn some concerns in our area. Currently the entire County of Huron is within the Huron-Bruce riding. The proposed boundaries would have the majority of Huron County in the newly formed South Huron Shores riding. However, Howick Township would join the Perth-Wellington riding, making it the only municipality within Huron County not to be included in South Huron Shores.

Dividing the county’s municipalities between different federal electoral districts is disappointing and we would like to see all of Huron County in one riding. The Township of Howick is part of Huron County and this split will make it more difficult if local residents need to deal with different levels of government. This split would also complicate our ability to serve our members as we would be dealing with different MPs for that area.

Thank you for considering the proposed boundaries and we sincerely hope that Howick Township is reunited with the rest of Huron County,

Rob VandenHengel, President

Huron County Federation of Agriculture
