Dear Electoral Boundaries Commission of Ontario:
As residents and elected municipal officials in the City of Stratford we are writing in support of the proposed boundaries for the riding of Perth—Wellington.
We consider it of vital importance to keep Stratford, the Town of St. Marys and the neighbouring communities of Perth County and Wellington County united in the same electoral district.
The City of Stratford and Perth County have a long and proud history of integration and cooperation. For many decades, government and non-government organizations have worked together within Stratford and across the entire county to deliver the services Canadians rely on. This includes:
- Our hospitals and paramedic services
- The EarlyOn Child and Family Care
- A 10-year housing and homeless plan for Stratford, Perth County, and St. Marys
- The Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan for City of Stratford, Town of St. Marys and Perth County, and
- The great work carried out by the Stratford Perth Community Foundation, Stratford-Perth Shelterlink, the Local Community Food Centre, and YMCA of Stratford Perth, among others.
Many people who live in the surrounding communities across Perth County travel to Stratford daily for work, or vice versa. The City and the County recently partnered to establish a bus system to bring workers from the surrounding towns in Perth County into Stratford to work in our factories and other businesses experiencing high job vacancies.
That Stratford, St. Marys and Perth County are intertwined socially and economically is undeniable. Whilst each community retains its uniqueness, the city and the surrounding towns have become so united the term Stratford Perth
is used frequently in our region.
We strongly support keeping the City of Stratford, the County of Perth and the Town of St. Marys within the same electoral district of Perth—Wellington.
