Federal electoral districts redistribution 2022

Foreword

The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for the Province of Ontario complied with its mandate under the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. E-3 by filing its report on February 8, 2023. The report was tabled in the House of Commons and referred to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs (the "Standing Committee") on February 10, 2023.

Twenty-seven Members of Parliament filed objections with the clerk of the Standing Committee by the deadline of March 12, 2023. Two of these members co-signed their objection, and another four also co-signed their objection, thus constituting 23 unique submissions. Sixteen Members of Parliament requested changes to the boundaries while seven Members of Parliament were supportive of the boundaries described in the Report. Among these submissions there were seven requests for name changes, and three submissions supportive of the Commission's proposed name changes.

The initial version of the Commission's Report is included in this final Report in its entirety. The new section entitled Addendum (Disposition of Objections) provides the Commission's consideration and disposition of the objections forwarded by the Standing Committee. As a result, the following changes are made:

  1. The electoral district of Manitoulin—Nickel Belt has been renamed SUDBURY EAST—MANITOULIN—NICKEL BELT.
  2. The Commission has restored the name of DON VALLEY WEST instead of renaming the district Don Valley South.
  3. The Commission has restored the name of BARRIE—SPRINGWATER—ORO-MEDONTE instead of renaming the district Barrie North—Springwater—Oro-Medonte.
  4. The Commission has restored the name of THORNHILL instead of renaming the district Vaughan—Thornhill.
  5. The electoral district of Niagara North has been renamed NIAGARA FALLS—NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE.
  6. The electoral district of Windsor—Tecumseh has been renamed WINDSOR—TECUMSEH—LAKESHORE.
  7. The Commission has transferred the neighbourhood of Governor's Bridge from DON VALLEY WEST to UNIVERSITY—ROSEDALE.
  8. The Commission has altered the boundaries of the electoral districts of OTTAWA—VANIER—GLOUCESTER and ORLÉANS.
  9. The Commission has transferred portions of the Township of King from NEW TECUMSETH—GWILLIMBURY to KING—VAUGHAN. The Township of King is now entirely in KING—VAUGHAN.
  10. The Commission has corrected a mapping error which inadvertently placed three residences in KITCHENER—CONESTOGA instead of in WELLINGTON—HALTON HILLS NORTH.
  11. The Commission has moved a portion of the City of Thorold from ST. CATHARINES to NIAGARA SOUTH. The City of Thorold is now entirely in NIAGARA SOUTH.

These adjustments are reflected in the accompanying APPENDIX C – Modified Maps, Boundary Descriptions, Population Figures and Names section of the Addendum (Disposition of Objections).
