Village of McAdam
Kennth Stannix, Mayor
Taylor Galant, Deputy Mayor

Subject: Public Hearing Participation from KENNETH STANNIX

McAdam is part of Regional Service Commission 10.  The area of Region 10 includes St. Stephen, Saint Andrews, Blacks Harbour, St. George, Grand Manan and Campobello.  McAdam should be included in the Federal Riding of Saint John - St. Croix rather than Fredericton - Oromocto.

Village of McAdam is passing a motion through our council to request that the Village of McAdam be placed in Saint John - St.Croix riding, which is a similar to our current riding of New Brunswick Southwest. We will be providing information on how our social, economic, historic, and current government structure is closely tied with the newly formed riding of Saint John - St.Croix

Mayor's letter dated August 22, 2022

Dear Commission,

The purpose of this letter is to bring forward concerns surrounding changes to McAdam's federal representation as proposed by your Commission on June 16, 2022. As Mayor of McAdam and Chair of the Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission (RSC 10), I strongly view this shift in federal representation as not in the best interests of our village.

I have served as Mayor of McAdam for the past six years. Both economically and culturally our interests are twinned with those of the electoral district of New Brunswick Southwest (proposed as Saint John—St. Croix). In this respect, we are much more closely aligned to St. Stephen and Charlotte County than Nackawic and the whole of Tobique—Mactaquac. This is evidenced by the fact that McAdam is part of RSC 10, which only includes communities in the proposed electoral district of Saint John—St. Croix.

More recently, during the 2013 redistribution of provincial electoral districts, the provincial riding of Charlotte—Campobello (now known as Saint Croix) was moved north to encompass McAdam. I would therefore encourage the Commission to follow the historical pattern of federal ridings, and the community interest, and keep McAdam in the same riding as the other communities of RSC 10. I would also note that since 1968, when Charlotte County ceased to be its own federal riding, McAdam maintained the same federal representation as all other communities lying near the St. Croix River.

Thank you for your consideration of this letter. I hope to formally present to the commission during one of your upcoming hearings in September.

Sincerely,

Ken Stannix
Mayor of McAdam
Chair, Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission
