John Williamson, MP for New Brunswick Southwest

Proposed changes by the Commission for New Brunswick Southwest (Saint John-St.Croix).

I would like to present at these three hearings: Rothesay, Saint Andrews and online.

Additional information received on 30 August 2022

My comments to the Commission will be in response to the proposed alternatives I expect to hear in Rothesay for Saint John West. I will not be disputing what the Commission has proposed but I'd like to reply to the alternatives the public might recommend that afternoon since moving Saint John West back to the rest of the city will significantly impact my riding, New Brunswick Southwest.

Should Saint John Be Split in Two?

  • Splitting cities in between ridings can help keep riding to manageable sizes
  • Other provinces do this for this exact purpose

If Saint John Is United

  • Quispamsis goes back to Fundy Royal?
  • Saint John—Rothesay Variance: Between +5.7% and +2.2%
  • Saint John—St. Croix (New Brunswick Southwest) Variance: Between -22.4% and -18.9%
  • Fundy Royal—Riverview Variance: +19.9%
  • Solutions:
    1. Swap areas between the ridings
    2. Allow large variance to remain
