We would like to question the logic behind the proposal to change the name of the riding of Simcoe North to Penetanguishene-Couchiching.
We do not understand why the committee would choose to recognize only two of the many municipalities in the current riding. We live in Victoria Harbour, in Tay Township, in the County of Simcoe, but we often tell people that we live near Midland, because most people know where that is. We are not as familiar with the Couchiching area, but we are sure that most people have heard of Orillia, so Midland-Orillia would be a better choice if a name change is deemed necessary.
The existing name of Simcoe North covers the area nicely, since all of the riding is within Simcoe County.
In addition, renaming the riding would necessitate a name change on many documents, including all correspondence pertaining to our MP.
We feel that this proposal is a totally unnecessary expenditure, and we request that the riding should continue to be known as Simcoe North.
