Submission to the Ontario Commission regarding the redistribution of the Federal Electoral Districts – October 19, 2022
I am writing to communicate my disagreement with the proposal to change the name of Parkdale-High Park.
Historically the current name is the one that is being used by the residents. I acknowledge that Canada's history has included colonialization and immigration from Europe and more recently Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other parts of the worlds. I expect the fact of that is being addressed in history classes and one can have educational explanations in appropriate settings about the dominance of various groups, how that came to be, and how that is changing.
However in this context, my neighbours and I are accepting of the historical, current name. I I appreciate the proposed name may have more distant history, but events and history happened as they did.
