As part of the redistribution process, I would like to submit my comments and feedback on the proposed boundaries and electoral district changes.
My interests do not align with the new proposed riding of Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott but do align more with Kingston and the Islands. The previous alignment had us having to travel to Smith Falls if we wanted to participate in the early voting, and we never heard from any of our candidates; we felt that we were in "no man's land". Kingston and the Islands are much better for us because:
- We share police and fire services with Kingston.
- Our social, cultural, and economic activities all center around Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott).
- We pay property taxes to the City of Kingston (not Gananoque, Brockville, or Prescott).
- The average distance to the constituency office would be 10 km in Kingston versus 90 km in Brockville.
