My name is Alana, and I am a lifetime resident of Kingston, ON. I was recently informed that the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston area was going to be moved into the Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott riding, and I wished to voice my confusion.
Parts of the area affected by this change are still very much within the bounds of what I consider to be Kingston. Frankly, for the 401 to be the northernmost cutoff for L-F-K was surprising enough considering the location of their MP's office; Carleton Place isn't exactly a quick jaunt down the 401! The new office would be in Brockville, and while marginally better than Carleton Place, would Kingston not be the closest and most realistic option? The average drive to the Kingston constituency office would be only ten kilometers! Surely that is preferable to Brockville.
The area of L-F-K in question shares police and fire services with Kingston. Its residents pay property taxes to the city of Kingston. By those two facts alone, should they not be considered Kingstonians?
