It has come to my attention that the commission has published the names and maps of Ontario's proposed new federal electoral districts. One of the districts affected is Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, which the commission proposes to be named Prescott Russell. Under this plan, Glengarry county and the corresponding name would be removed and placed in another riding. At the same time, a much more significant portion of the former historic Township of Cumberland (both in size and population) would be annexed to the new riding of Prescott-Russell. I suggest the new riding be named Cumberland-Prescott-Russell, which would reflect our area's boundaries and history more correctly. While this is arguably a small change for the commission, it is significant for the people of the area whom I represent as School Board Trustee.
