I am writing as a resident of South Frontenac, Ontario to provide my feedback on the current considered redistributions of electoral boundaries. Our area is currently in the riding of Lanark - Frontenac - Kingston where the largest urban centres are Smiths Falls and Carleton Place. As part of the electoral district, I feel poorly represented as these towns are over an hour away from my home and rarely visit them. We are less than 20 minutes away from Kingston and commute to this area on almost a daily basis as this is where my husband and I both work and all the resources (grocery, restaurants, medical services, extracurricular activities for our children etc.) we regularly access are located. While our property taxes are not paid to the City of Kingston but rather to South Frontenac Township, South Frontenac residents are much more reliant on Kingston area services and resources than those in the Smiths Falls/Carleton Place areas and as such our interests would be much better represented if we we were to be included in the Kingston and the Islands riding.

My understanding is that the proposed new riding for the Kingston area is Gananoque-Brockville-Prescott riding. Much like Smith Falls/Carleton Place, these locations are not ones that we frequent on a regular basis and are definitely not reliant upon in any way which are up to an hour and a half away. Given the distance and lack of reliance on resources and services, this again would offer poor representation of our interests in parliament.

Thank you for considering my feedback,

Sarah Platz
