I have altered the boundary of Kingston and the Islands to include my community and others, like ours, within the more urban parts of the city. The proposed boundaries, much like the last redistribution, attaches our community (Glenburnie) to centres far from us geographically and whose issues are quite different from ours. As such, we don't feel represented by our representatives, who never visit our area and whose riding offices are many miles away. With the proposed changes, we would simply change the direction of our travel, but would have no more in common with the overall focus and concerns of the riding than we do now.
We are part of Kingston, we pay taxes to Kingston, our community connections are in Kingston, we receive services from Kingston, we work in Kingston, our political concerns and priorities are associated with Kingston - and truth be told, we already get more response and support from the representatives for Kingston and the Islands than we do from our own.
