Subject: Oakville Lakeshore Proposal

As a resident of Oakville, I urge the Commission to give greater weight to the boundaries of local municipalities in determining the boundaries of federal electoral districts (FEDs) in Halton and to include at most two local municipalities in each district. This will result in less heterogeneous districts and help Halton MPs to effectively represent and serve their constituents.

Rather than assigning parts of Oakville to four different districts -- two of which are made up of parts of three or more local municipalities -- the boundaries of the two main Oakville districts should be adjusted so that they only include parts of Oakville. With a 2021 Census population of 213,759, it is possible to divide the town of Oakville into two areas with a population within 10% of the Quota population for an Ontario FED (116,590).

One potential way to achieve this would be to move the southwest boundary of the proposed Oakville Lakeshore and North Oakville districts from Appleby Line to the Oakville-Burlington border, move the northwest border of the proposed North Oakville district from Dundas Street to the Oakville-Milton border, and shift a portion of Oakville North to Oakville Lakeshore. Based on the history of Oakville's development and on communities of interest, my suggestion would be to reassign the neighbourhood of College Park (bounded by Trafalgar Road, the QEW, Sixteen Mile Creek, and Upper Middle Road) from Oakville North to Oakville Lakeshore.

With the Town of Oakville making up two FEDs, the riding of Burlington (Burlington Lakeshore) could maintain boundaries similar to those that exist now. Then the border between Burlington-Milton West and Georgetown-Milton East could be adjusted to balance out the population of these districts. Ideally, the border between these two districts would also be adjusted so that Burlington-Milton West only includes parts of the City of Burlington and the Town of Milton and Georgetown-Milton West only includes parts of the Town of Milton and the Town of Halton Hills.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide my input.

Best regards,

Tony Parker
