Objection to Proposed Kanata-Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke Boundary

We, the undersigned residents of former rural Kanata and the adjacent area, strongly object to our inclusion in the proposed federal electoral district of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke.

Our area is only a short drive from the high-tech industries of the North Kanata Business Park and barely 20 minutes from the hub of the Kanata retail district. Almost all our day-to-day social and business needs are met in Kanata, other parts of Ottawa to the south of us, and nearby Carp. Our power is supplied by Ottawa Hydro, not Hydro One. Most of us rarely travel into the rural areas to our north, or to Arnprior, Renfrew, or Pembroke. We have always felt that we are part of Kanata and much of our area was actually within the former City of Kanata until municipal amalgamation in 2001.

The proposed electoral district of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke is a huge area, most of which is not well known to most of us. We are concerned that access to our MP would be severely impaired if we became part of the proposed Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke electoral district and wish to remain part of the Kanata electoral district.

As the northern boundary of the former City of Kanata was the Thomas Dolan Parkway, we would ask that the northern boundary of the proposed Kanata electoral district be the Thomas Dolan Parkway, which would constitute only a small change to the proposed boundaries. The size of the population involved in this change is surely relatively small and would therefore not upset the balance of the respective populations of the proposed electoral districts. Most importantly, it would maintain the association that we have always had with Kanata and facilitate access to our MP.

Thank you for your consideration.
