Please consider this as a formal written submission to the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission.

Establishing electoral riding boundaries may never be perfect, but it is paramount to consider the natural geographic connections people and communities have within a riding. One of the primary goals for the Commission should be to maintain natural communities of interest when creating boundaries and avoid disruptions of existing boundaries as much as possible. This is the same message I, as Mayor of Kitchener, presented to the Commission a decade ago when the fifth riding was created within the Region of Waterloo. The existing boundaries in Waterloo Region have generally accomplished this goal.

In order to meet that goal and meet the Commissions mandate, I support the following adjustments be made to the Commission's 2022 proposal.

  1. Kitchener-Conestoga — add the area in Kitchener bounded by Fischer-Hallman Rd., Highland Rd., Westmount Rd. and Highway 8
  2. Kitchener-Centre — accept Commission proposal to move the Bridgeport area from Waterloo to Kitchener Centre
  3. Waterloo - accept Commission proposal to move the Bridgeport area Kitchener Centre
  4. Kitchener South-Hespeler — retain the existing boundary (no changes)
  5. Cambridge — retain the existing boundary (no changes)

These minor adjustments will ensure the electoral variances are well within the Commission's mandate in each of the ridings. This would also ensure that communities of interest were being respected.
