To the Commissioners,

As the federal riding of Provencher continues to grow in population, due to numerous municipalities expanding at a rapid pace, it is abundantly clear some changes must be made. It is also expected that many of the municipalities in the riding will see future population growth, such as Niverville and Steinbach.

Over the past five years, Provencher has grown by 9.5%, with not a total population of 109,445. In order to decrease the population of Provencher to align with the other ridings, I am recommending the Municipality of Springfield be included with Transcona. By moving this one municipality, it will bring Provencher into line with the provincial population average.

There are numerous reasons to support this change above and beyond just the population justification. The communities of interest between Transcona and Springfield are immense. A significant amount of people in Springfield either do business, have a job, go shopping, or have family and friends in the neighbourhoods of Concordia, Radisson or Transcona. The vast majority of people in Springfield look at Winnipeg as their hub, rather than Steinbach, Beausejour, or Lac du Bonnet. As a bedroom community of Transcona, there are strong economic and communities of interest.
