After participating in a survey, I've been encouraged by the person addressed in the Cc: box to share my opinion with you regarding the subject redistribution.
The email I received that encouraged me to write, included some possible reasons to detail why I want my riding to return to Kingston and the Islands. Those reasons are:
- That my home and my family are serviced by Kingston Police Service and Kingston Fire Department.
- That our social, cultural, and economic activity all center around Kingston, (not Gananoque, not Brockville, not Prescott).
- I pay property taxes to the City of Kingston.
- The distance to the constituency office in Kingston is 10km vice 90 km to Brockville.
I agree with the four bullet points above. The blatant obviousness of the points should impress upon any reasonable decision-maker why the riding should be returned as Kingston and the Islands. As such, I have included them in my reasoning. And, this big point:
I live in Kingston.
When we were moved to the riding of Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, I thought it was ridiculous. Including Kingston in the name of the riding does not make it a Kingston riding. I live two kilometers north of the 401. Therefore, by the powers that be, my family and I have been uprooted politically to the benefit of I don't know what reasoning.
Put us back in our hometown of Kingston.
Thank you,
Edward O'Brien
